The Town Clerk’s Office records activities of the Town Government and is the central place in which all documents and papers vital to the lives of the townspeople are filed. The Town Clerk has custody of all the records, books, and papers of the Town. Certificates such as marriage, birth, and death; dog licenses and conservation licenses are issued by the Town Clerk.
Other services offered by the Town Clerk’s Office are: Planning and Zoning Laws, Plattekill Police Accident Reports, FOIL – Records Request, Handicap Parking Permits, Copies, Maps.
The Town Clerk is also the Town Tax Collector. Billing and payment schedules are mailed to each taxpayer annually.

- 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday
- After hours by appointment
Tax Collection:
- 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday
Marriage Licenses:
- Licenses are issued Monday through Friday between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM – APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED
- Both parties must be over 18.
- Fee: $35.00, either cash or check.
- Each party must bring in 3 forms of ID (picture ID & birth certificate with SEAL, and Social Security Card)
- Both applicants must come in person
- Any previously married persons must provide certified date of death, or certified copy of divorce papers, whichever is applicable. Divorce Papers must be CERTIFIED WITH SEAL.
Valid for 60 days after 24 hour waiting period.
Applying for Handicapped Parking Permit:
Applications may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s Office or at your Doctors Office.
Bring the application to the Town Clerk’s Office with your proof of identity and proof of residency.
Lost/Stolen Permits
- An applicant may be issued no more than two permits for any period. If an applicant was only issued one permit and loses that permit, he or she can come in to ask for the second permit.
- If an applicant was issued permits and loses the permit, he or she will need to report the permit lost or stolen to the local police authority. The permit holder will need to provide proof that the report was made. A form is available at the Town Clerk’s Office.
- Once proof of the report is provided, a 30 day hold period will need to elapse before a replacement can be issued.
- There will be no more than one replacement permit issued for the duration of the permit period.
Denial or Revocation of Permits
- New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law authorizes issuing agents to deny an applicant a permit or to revoke an issued permit if he or she feels there is evidence of abuse
- If a permit holder is notified that the permit has been revoked, he or she must return the permit to the issuing agent. If the permit is not returned by the specified date, local law enforcement personnel will be contacted to confiscate the permit.
