NEW TOWN Law- Short Term Rentals
Posted April 8, 2026
Dear Resident / Property owner,
Recently, the Town of Plattekill enacted new laws regulating short‑term rentals. All short‑term rentals must now be registered and must obtain an operating permit from the Town of Plattekill. Your property has been identified as operating a short‑term rental that requires this permit.
It is illegal to operate a short‑term rental without both a valid town permit and a tax certificate issued by Ulster County. Please bring your rental into compliance immediately.
An amnesty period is in effect until June 1, 2026. If no application has been received by May 1, 2026, a cease‑and‑desist order will be issued for the property.
If your property is not being used as a short‑term rental, or if you choose not to operate one, please promptly remove any active listings from rental platforms and notify this office.
Thank you,
William Johosky / Greg Hermance
